After the events of September 11, 2001 many in the direct mail industry began to examine their technology infrastructure and shift their paradigm to include an emphasis on Disaster Recovery. ARM did not need to redirect its efforts, since our plan had already been created! A Plan of Action in times of crisis or emergency was our goal. While this seems simplistic, our overall goals and plan demonstrated that we had embarked on an extensive but necessary undertaking. ARM has prepared itself to effectively deal with a magnitude of events that could:
Deny us physical access to our location of business at 441 Lexington Avenue while the infrastructure of IT within the building remained accessible via remote connection or;
Deny us both physical access and remote capabilities to our location of business at 441 Lexington Avenue and its IT infrastructure.
In implementing our Plan of Action, the following was accomplished:
A remote off-site location was chosen to build our Disaster Recovery (D/R) infrastructure
A secure D/R office was built to house the hardware necessary to support our plan;
A D/R IT plan design was researched, created and reviewed to ensure it met ARM’s needs;
The hardware and software necessary to create a D/R site was researched, evaluated, purchased, installed and tested;
Specific client needs were evaluated to ensure we were in a position capable of servicing our clients;
The specific operational plan of action for the day of emergency itself was created. This plan was then reviewed and tested. After completion, modifications to the plan were made as necessary, and the plan is tested annually.
